I’ve been wanting to ease back into posting here after being away in San Diego, so I figured I’d start with something fun and easy… a Halloween playlist that got slightly out of hand. 😆

This actually started one night when I woke up to use the bathroom and then couldn’t fall back asleep. Somehow that turned into me lying there thinking about Dead Man’s Party by Oingo Boingo, and then wondering what else would fit that same kind of weird, spooky, danceable vibe.

And apparently the answer was… a lot. 😂

I started with Oingo Boingo and then slowly worked my way outward into Talking Heads, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen, Bauhaus, Crystal Castles, MGMT, Tame Impala and plenty of other things that felt suitably strange, dark, theatrical, romantic or just a little haunted.

I didn’t want it to feel like a typical Halloween playlist full of novelty songs. I wanted something more like an odd little 80s Halloween party that gradually gets darker as the night goes on… new wave, post-punk, goth, darkwave, a little electronic weirdness and just enough campiness.

And thus, Dance til you’re dead was born! 💀

It was absolutely worth the lost sleep because I’ve been listening to it constantly for the past couple weeks. And of course I haven’t really stopped working on it either! I keep finding songs to add, moving things around and trying to make the whole thing flow a little better.

At this point it’s over four hours long, so apparently I made myself a whole Halloween night instead of a playlist. 😂

A few of my favorites in there right now are Dead Man’s Party, No One Lives Forever, The Model, Peek-a-Boo, Everyday is Halloween, This Corrosion, Bela Lugosi’s Dead, Human Fly, Dracula, and Walking with a Ghost.

If you like spooky music that is less Monster Mash and more weird people dancing in a foggy room at midnight, you might like this one too! 🎃🖤
