beautiful noise for complicated girls
I didn’t really have a plan for this playlist. I just kept adding songs until I realized they all had something in common.
It started as “Girl powerrrr,” a collection of songs I loved with a very feminine energy (plus a few men who have since been granted honorary girl.exe citizenship 😄).
Somewhere along the way, I realized there was a much more specific sound connecting everything I kept adding: glitchy, dreamy, distorted, electronic, feminine, bratty, dark, occasionally abrasive, and usually just a little bit strange.
Pretty, but something is slightly wrong…
So gradually, girl.exe was born.
I’m also realizing this playlist kind of marks a new little music phase for me. I was DEEP in a Sidewalks and Skeletons + Crystal Castles obsession for a while and genuinely didn’t think I’d ever move on from Crystal Castles. 🤭 Then came lots of Alice Glass, followed by listening to more and more of my friend Prismatis’ music… and somehow that eventually led me here.
I still adore all of them… obviously. But girl.exe feels fresh. Like the next weird little evolution of whatever my brain has been looking for in music lately. 🖤
What I kept coming back to
Apparently I have a type…
Give me dreamy synths, distorted vocals, glitchy production, a little darkness, or anything that makes me wonder what the hell am I listening to? and I’m probably in. 😄
There’s Alice Glass and CRIM3S, some Pastel Ghost, Otha, Uffie, and a healthy amount of my friend Prismatis woven throughout. And then there are the artists I discovered while building this playlist that I’m already falling down little rabbit holes with.
I have no idea if girl.exe is finished…
🤔 Probably not.
Complicated girls rarely are. 😉
